Welcome to the beat. I'm Ari Melbert. It is Halloween. We have a live edition of the program, and boy, is there a ton of news. If you've been watching, I was in for Nicole last hour, but this is a new hour as we are awaiting what I mentioned, which will be an announcement as expected of state charges against the suspected attacker of Speaker Pelosi, San Francisco,

home. So we're going to bring you that live when we get it. We think it'll be at some point

later this hour. The charges are hitting after a separate action from the Justice Department,

which has already charged David Dupap with assault and attempted kidnapping. The charging

documents reveal new information that does touch on what may be the politics of all this.

And I say maybe because we have to follow the evidence and what the authorities say,

and much of this information is only slowly coming into view.

But the suspect did say that the goal was to, quote, hold Nancy hostage, viewing her as the leader of the

pack of lies told by the Democratic Party and said that if Nancy were to tell the truth,

he'd let her go, but if she lied, he was going to break her kneecaps. Furthermore, the individual

said they would show other members of Congress.

The suspect did not ever get close to reaching Nancy Pelosi.

He found her husband, Paul Pelosi.
