knowledge. It's part of what it means to be human. Just about every game I can

think of involves ignorance. There's no adventure without ignorance. There's no there's no narrative.

Have you ever killed a bird before?

No. By any meat. No.

So, um... I'm sitting at home in my study with an injured chicken on my

lap and a man on the phone is advising me how to kill him and this is not how either of us

wanted to start our day. Most people probably use manual net dislocation but that is a

skill. Let me explain. Over the last eight weeks I've been raising a little flock of meat

chickens in my back garden. It's part of an experiment to explore how meat birds are produced in this country and to find out a little bit more about why we eat what we eat.

I told myself I could give them a better life than the one I'd rescued them from in the chicken meat industry.

To be honest, it hasn't really worked out that way.

After only a couple of weeks we lost our first chick, Hey Hey Hey, She went lame and had to be put down by the vet.

A few weeks later, a fox took nugget right out from under our noses.
