Grab your coffee and get comfy because I'm about to tell you a tale of two Republicans.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

And how their story plays out over the next 48 hours will say a lot about the state of the party right now.

We'll dig into that in a bit.

But first, about that Biden-GOP huddle.

If you weren't already skeptical of a bipartisan COVID-relief deal, you might be now.

Biden and those 10 GOP senators who tried to sell a $600 billion plan to counter Biden's

almost $2 trillion package yesterday, well, they all seem to enjoy their two-hour chat in the West Wing.

But the show of bipartisanship and Biden making good on his campaign pledge to work across the aisle

is likely to be just that, a show. The press showed zero interest in backing

off from his plan or using reconciliation to pass it. A former Biden aide in close touch with

the White House told Politico, I think this is a good opportunity to show he was serious

about working with Republicans, but if they're not willing to do what it takes, then we've got

the votes to do it our way.

Meanwhile, it's not just COVID relief Biden's got his eye on.

The New York Times reports the admins making moves this week to free up billions and aid for Puerto Rico,

starting to lift some restrictions Trump placed just hours before leaving office on dollars that were meant to help the island after Hurricane Maria.

Administration officials

are framing the move in YT reports as a first step toward addressing racial inequality through policies
