Summary

This episode features better audio and fewer ads: Gene and cohost Tim Swartz present an entertaining pop culture look at "B" movies and movie serials with Brian Walker, creator and webmaster of Brian’s Drive-In Theater. He's been keeping memories of drive-in films and their stars alive since February 1, 1998. His love of films began in childhood with his first Super 8mm projector given to him by his grandmother who also bought him his first film, a four-minute excerpt of a W.C. Fields comedy. Over the last 50 years, he has assembled a film collection from such genres as horror and science fiction, comedy, and action with a special emphasis on B (low budget) movies. Currently calling Morgantown, West Virginia home, Brian is fortunate to live in proximity of a number of still-operating drive-in theaters in the southwestern Pennsylvania area and loves taking his convertible to the drive-in during the warm summer months. All told, this episode will provide a great look into pop culture over the decades, and its impact on society. As listeners to The Paracast know full well, the conventional memes in the UFO field about the origins and purpose of the phenomenon are infused in our culture, and sci-fi "B" movies, such as "Earth Versus the Flying Saucers," play a large part.

0:32.1	Before we did this episode of the Paracast, I was thinking back to my misbegotten youth in Brooklyn, New York.
0:39.3	My dad would take me to a movie theater, off-time square, where they'd show older B-movies,
0:47.3	like, for example, we'd see the Universal Horror Films, like House of Dracula.
0:52.3	And then we saw a movie serial.
1:02.6	It was in the middle of the 12th chapter serial where this nerdy guy is in some kind of garage or a small cabin with this woman.
1:07.0	And they're about, of course, to be blown up.
1:10.8	And unfortunately, the guy's mouth is covered so we can't speak.
1:15.7	And in the next scene, of course, he's able to get his bandana off,
1:23.3	and he says the magic words,
1:25.7	Shazam, and becomes Captain Marvel.
1:29.7	I remember seeing that.
1:30.9	That must be sometime in the late 50s.
1:33.3	Of course, the film was dated back in 1941 with a former Western actor by the name of
1:40.7	Tom Tyler, who also played The Mummy, by the way.
1:43.8	Interesting. So I go back quite a bit.
1:46.5	I actually remember my late brother would play these dramas on radio, and he'd always pick the
