Mandates related to the COVID-19 vaccination campaign throughout the Western world and beyond

have been an incredibly important as well as controversial topic that have now impacted the lives

of millions of people, forcing them to face a choice between their livelihoods and compliance

with government demands.

Independent media has covered the mandate issue much more extensively than their mainstream

counterparts, while also offering a diversity of opinions on the vaccines themselves, such as

their purported efficacy and safety profiles versus the reality, as well as the ties between

the global COVID-19 vaccination campaign

and the effort to use COVID-19 vaccination credentials to widely implement biometric digital ID

systems, among other uses. However, despite the liveliness of the debate and high public interest

in this particular topic, relatively little attention has been given to one

of the key agencies that has made these mandates possible in the U.S. and whose decisions are often

used to justify public health policy abroad, the Food and Drug Administration or FDA. The FDA, which

has been led by acting head Janet Woodcock for much of the COVID-19

crisis, is officially tasked with protecting public health through the approval, control, and

supervision of prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines, medical devices,

food and dietary supplements, and much more. However, numerous officials at the

FDA have come under fire, including Woodcock herself, for conflicts of interest with the industries

they are tasked with regulating and have been credibly accused, not just during COVID-19, but well

before, of putting the interest of those industries far above the interests of public health.
