Good morning. It is Sunday, August the 14th. I'm Ali Velsi, another day, another new detail in the anti-democratic story of Donald Trump.

And like so much of his story, this part is littered with lies. Let's circle back to last summer,

when the National Archives and Records Administration realized

that Trump, when he left office, improperly took with him scores of government documents and items,

all of which are the property of the United States.

Back in January, federal agents descended on Mar-a-Lago and collected what the former president

and his people said was all he had.

Fifteen boxes worth of documents and other items.

Inside those documents were things like the, quote, love letters, Trump's words, by the way,

that he would exchange with North Korea's Kim Jong-un.

But more importantly, there were documents that were marked as classified and top secret. Turns out the former president and his people

were less than forthcoming about that being all the classified documents with which he absconded

to his tropical golf resort. We know this because NBC News has learned that, quote, someone

familiar with the materials inside

Mar-a-Lago told investigators that there were more classified documents swirled away at the

golf resort. In the spring, Trump received a federal grand jury subpoena to turn over the rest

of what he had in his Mar-a-Lago horde. On June the 3rd, a team of federal

investigators, including top counterintelligence officials from the Justice Department,

met with Trump and two of his lawyers at Mar-a-Lago. People briefed on that meeting tell the New York

Times that the lawyers also showed the investigators a storage area with boxes containing more of the material that Trump took.

Two people briefed on that visit tell the New York Times that investigators left with some material marked classified.

And also, importantly, around this time, at least one of Trump's lawyers signed a written document
