If you've been listening to the Dad Tired podcast for any amount of time or maybe you've read one of the Dad Tired books, you have likely heard me talk about my relationship with my dad and you know I never want to continue to bring up my own story and I certainly don't want to make this

0:13.9

about me at all but my dad's absence in my childhood was played such a big role

0:19.6

in my life and I truly believe that dadired wouldn't be around if it weren't for that part of my story.

0:26.4

And it's also just shaped so much of like, you know, my own pain and hurt and processing of God.

0:32.1

And so much of the things that I say are right come out of that

0:36.2

foundation. For better or worse, that's a real part of my story and it kind of bleeds out in everything

0:41.9

that I do.

0:42.8

And so my dad actually came to visit this week

0:45.8

and he's never stayed at our house before.

0:47.8

I've never had him,

0:49.3

over the years we've had maybe lunches or dinners together,

0:51.8

but I've never like had an extended

0:54.4

amount of time with him outside of just one time in the last few years where he

0:58.6

traveled with me to some speaking engagements but he's never been with my

1:01.8

families never stay with my family or anything like that. And so this last week, he was here and just kind of on the whim. I wasn't planning on doing this, but just on a whim, I said, you want to record a podcast episode with me. And he sure and my dad one thing I love about him is he's down for anything and so we sat down and I just hit record I'm telling you all this before we jump in because there's really no agenda here. I don't know if

1:24.6

you're going to listen to this episode and get any like huge gospel nuggets, maybe

1:28.8

you will. It was really just kind of therapeutic for me to be honest with you like just to hit record and to talk to my dad about the pain that I've experienced and his absence and his own childhood and all that so I guess my hope for this episode that I hope that you'll be

1:45.5

encouraged like every other dad tired podcast episode I hope that you'll be

1:48.8

encouraged by it but really I guess this is just kind of your way of being a fly on the wall as you hear me

1:54.9

my dad talk through some of my own pain. Again if there's something that you can

1:58.8

get out of that awesome but otherwise you can just kind of listen in as we process and maybe if it's not helpful

2:05.2

at all go back and listen to all the other episodes because I think they're pretty helpful.
