Summary

In this replay, I’m revisiting the case of my missing sister, Alissa Turney, beginning with a 2019 phone call between me and our father, Michael Turney the only person of interest in her case with added context, updates, and a bit of reflection. Hello. This week I'm stepping away from the office to focus on something incredibly important.

0:06.9

The first ever search for my sister Alyssa's remains. After nearly 25 years, it's finally happening.

0:14.3

While I'd usually bring you an older episode from season two, I thought it was only fitting to go back to the very beginning of all of this, to the

0:22.0

very first episode of Voices for Justice. I published that back in 2019, and I want to give you

0:29.4

some context, updates, and hindsight about this episode. Of course, first is that when the police

0:35.9

told me they didn't have enough evidence to arrest my

0:38.1

father for Alyssa's murder in 2017, they suggested I get media coverage. The only problem was,

0:45.1

the mainstream media was not interested at all. So I went on every podcast and YouTube channel I

0:52.2

could find to cover Alyssa's case. And I literally mean

0:55.7

every single one. I lost count of exactly how many, but it's definitely upwards of 50. I even went

1:02.0

to a stranger's home late at night to interview for their YouTube channel with exactly three

1:07.0

subscribers. I know, it's not smart and it's not safe, but luckily they did turn out to be lovely people.

1:14.6

And after about two years of doing everything I could to get media coverage for Alyssa,

1:19.0

many of the true crime content creators I met along the way suggested I make a podcast about

1:23.6

her myself.

1:24.7

So in 2019, that was the new plan.

1:29.8

That summer, I'd just gotten back from my first crime con event in New Orleans. I was just a family member speaking on a panel about my sister,

1:35.5

but there I met with a producer from ABC 2020. There's an old episode about Alyssa from 2009

1:41.5

that I was desperately asking them to revisit an update. So I was jumping

1:46.4

for joy when they told me that they would. I was finally going to get some national media coverage.

1:52.6

There was just one giant hurdle to jump through first. They'd only do it if my father would

1:58.9

interview for the show, too.
