The King of all Fatal conveniences may very well be Online shopping. Since the invention of the World Wide Web in 1999, E-Commerce has grown exponentially around the world, with a particular peak in 2020 with the outbreak of COVID-19, leaving many people at home with nothing to do but shop online. With the rise of online purchasing also comes the rise in waste ranging from plastic to textile and excess carbon emissions. Not only is the impact to the environment significant, but the psychological impact is overwhelming, causing anxiety and depression in many people. What are the ways that we, the consumers, can curb our online shopping cravings to encourage our own health as well as the health of the planet?
What I discuss:
Question 1: History and Why It’s Commonly Found in Society
Question 2: What makes online shopping convenient?
Question 3: Why should we care and why is it harmful?
Question 4: What are the solutions?
