Hey Phil, thanks for joining me.

You had a February 25th, 2020 article titled Harvard finally stands up to academic duplicity.

You are an economic historian.

That was a great article.

You've been on the show before.

Now we're going to talk about something that the American Economics Association did.

They awarded a very prestigious medal to a economist named Gabriel Zuckman.

Tell us about that.

Yeah, so Gabriel Zuckman is probably best known to the public as the guy that put the academic

work behind this talking point we hear on the political left that claims that billionaires

pay a lower tax rate than the average American.

This was the one that Joe Biden repeated in the state of the Union address and Senator

Elizabeth Warren has been all over the place.

The claim is used to justify the case for imposing wealth taxation or making the federal

tax system significantly more progressive.

So that's been his major academic work and what happened to this just last week.

The American Economic Association gave Professor Zuckman the John Bates Clark Medal, which

is considered what the second most prestigious award in economics after the Nobel Prize.

So it's a very big deal.
