I'm going to turn it over to Wes to share a little bit about himself, you know, why he's been missing the last couple days and what's going on?

Yeah, I've been out the past couple of days spending the days in hospitals getting tests.

They found a mass on my esophagus.

And it turns out it is cancer where my esophagus meets my stomach before everybody freaks out listening.

My doctor is very encouraged that it did not spread.

I'm your host, Peter Overzette. In that clip you heard a few seconds ago, is Chris Wessling, a writer and podcaster for the NFL, openly sharing his cancer diagnosis last May

on one of the most listened to football podcasts in the world around the NFL.

Everyone at Fantasyland is a big fan of Chris Wessling, so we were stunned when we heard his

announcement last summer. As Chris's battle with cancer unfolded publicly,

we, like so many others, listened to every episode and tracked his progress on Twitter and

Instagram. Then in the fall, we reached out to Chris to see if we could make a Fantasyland

episode about everything he was going through. Over the course of the past five months, we've checked in regularly with Chris,

through the highs, like announcing on around the NFL that his tumor had been obliterated,

to the lows of an eight-day hospital stay or even getting out of bed caused excruciating pain.

We also talked with the people in his life, co-workers, family, friends, listeners,

and even his girlfriend, the Paramour. In talking to all of these people and diving into the

colorful world of the Around the NFL podcast, we realized this wasn't just a story about a public

figure battling cancer. It was also a story about a truly unique

person. Chris is brilliant but humble, incredibly stubborn and yet open-minded. He's the kind of guy who

can feel just as much at home pouring his own beer at a beachside dive bar as he can call

Cam Newton a preening schmo on air in the NFL studios.
