Summary

Host Ian Hartitz breaks down Trevor Lawrence's fantasy outlook ahead of the 2021 season. You won't find a better QB prospect than Lawrence, who checks every box and did nothing other than ball out during his time in Clemson. The potential problem: Urban Meyer, who has made one confusing decision after another with Jacksonville. Perhaps Lawrence is good enough to overcome the plethora of confusing offseason moves, but things are certainly more concerning now than they were back in January. Ian wraps up the pod with Lawrence's fantasy rank and where he should go in dynasty land.

Hello, welcome to PFF Fancy football podcasts. I'm your host, Ian Hartitz. And today we continue our fantasy files series with a look at number one overall pick Trevor Lawrence. Now a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I mean, it's tough to find a better prospect really in the history of the game.

0:26.0

Then Lawrence just in terms of they're being so few red flags basically every step of the way throughout his football career. Number one overall crew, 2018 high school class comes to Clemson wins an actual championship as a rookie riffs off a 38 and two record. This guy has literally not lost a regular season game ever. That's the stat right high school college.

0:48.0

We're probably, you know, I'm not going to lose a regular season game. And with Jacksonville, we think that would seemingly happen. Hasn't happened to this point. Absolutely incredible Jaguar is obviously made a number one overall pick just like any other team, whatever in this position and how here we are Lawrence with again more buzzing just about any quarterback we can remember ahead of the 2021 season.

1:10.0

It makes sense. And this is from our pff 2021 NFL draft guide courtesy of the always great Mike runner. The hype is all warranted to special quarterback class, but there's still clear gap between Lawrence and everyone else is the only quarterback in the pff college era to grade over 90 overalls to true freshman.

1:26.0

And we repeated that fee in both years since this year, despite having what was easily the worst offensive line and groupers series ever had Lawrence still put up a career high 91.2 overall grade and show continued growth. Most notably is accuracy. So consider what up tick is not perfect prospect.

1:40.0

And if already as it gets as someone that saw Lawrence ripped a heart out of my buck eyes in 2019, even getting revenge in this past like playoff game did not like take away just from seeing Lawrence as again the god of the QBs in this class.

1:57.0

And he was able to do even with all those buck eye defenders in his face and one of you know one of his quote unquote relatively worse hours. The guy was still absolutely fantastic. And it's because he can put the ball to any spot on the field and he's fast enough to really force defenses to defend every square inch and I get it.

2:15.0

And you know Josh Allen's rocket launcher for right arm. He also doesn't have you know even just in fields type of speed to kind of force defense to the work worry about him in the run game. But you know wherever you want overall passing grade 90.3 intermediate grade 90.2 deep ball 97.7 no pressure grade 92.6

2:34.0

Whatever stat you want to pull out from his college football career Trevor Lawrence was elite in it. And with that in mind people. I was really high on Lawrence going into this year. We've only seen a handful of rookie QBs function as fancy football just QB once again top 12 at the position.

2:51.0

And the first guys were Camden Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin, that press got Russell Wilson and Kyla Murray and most recently Justin Herbert. So those seven guys and the big trends except for Justin Herbert. He ended up being the except into the rule. But the big trends from the other guys were be a week one starter and have the existence of a Russian floor.

3:09.0

And really that Russian floor was at least 25 Russian yards per game in college as a solid Justin Herbert started in week two was farm, athletic and he showed that Oregon. And we can't solve some of that from his testing. So Lawrence is right there at 24 Russian yards per game at Clemson. Obviously is going to be starting in week one.

3:25.0

Why am I souring on Lawrence after kind of actually having him as that borderline QB one before the draft is because what in the hell is urban Meyer doing like I was.

3:37.0

I was optimistic with urban coming to the NFL because we had seen enough in his second 10 year at Ohio State to believe that maybe to go into the NFL as a CEO type. I mean when Ohio State got absolutely blanked by Clemson in 2016 with JT bear trying to run the show.

3:54.0

The result was that they brought him Ryan Day to really just revamp their entire passing game. The results have been great. Dwayne Haskins. Obviously did not pan out in the NFL has not pan out at this point. Still set the freaking big 10 touchdown record and was the first on picks Justin field just went to the bears.

4:12.0

High up in the first on I believe 11th overall clearly show that he was plenty capable of making some huge throws during his time Ohio State particularly in that Clemson game. But those weren't really from urban. And that's why I thought hey okay here's urban who historically has need to have control over every minute detail of the organization.

4:30.0

It seemed like he was giving up some of that for a good reason we saw good results from it. Now I'm not so sure that's going to be the case and it's a few different things. So first of all I'm just starting in the beginning of the off season we have Meyer hiring controversial former Iowa strength coach Chris Doyle who resigned.

4:45.0

And fewer than 48 hours later that was the first time that we were just like wait a second. Why did you just do that we move on we get the free agency tax about all the money in the world to spend you know that whether it was curtail Samuel whether it was a fuller like the amount you can pick any player almost any offensive position and just fingers crossed.

5:03.0

They're going to bring that man and really give Lawrence you know a treasure chest of weapons to work with not really we got career special team or Jamal Agnew coming in maybe be more involved in offense. He hasn't passed 31 year old wide receiver Marvin Jones. Hey I get it he's caught nine touchdowns in each of the past two years.

5:18.0

Just realized coming back from injury last year he did not look like the same player and I firmly believe he would not have had that same level success is Stafford literally just didn't have anybody else to fill the ball to after Kenny Gold they got hurt. We got blocking tight and Chris manhurt and Urban's old buddy Carlos Hyde and once he signed Carlos Hyde and said that he's going to be right there James Robinson we should have known something was up and we should have known that 10 T.

5:41.0

But was going to freaking get involved somehow maybe 10 T. But maybe I'm wrong maybe he's just going to eight years away from the game was all he needed to become a great NFL tight and you know playing baseball gave T.

5:52.0

Both the hands he never had and just refound his love for the game I guess that's what how you want to go great it's objectively terrible news for Trevor Lawrence the one good thing that some people pointed to is how having Tim T.

6:03.0

There actually takes pressure off of Lawrence like now he's not even being getting the most headlines for this team of T.
