Summary
Host Ian Hartitz breaks down Allen Robinson's fantasy outlook ahead of the 2021 season. Credit to A-Rob for largely overcoming mediocre QB play throughout his collegiate and professional career, although we actually did see a slip up back in 2016 despite the presence of a ton of targets. This generation's Andre Johnson in terms of bad signal-callers, Robinson rebounded nicely from his final years in Jacksonville with nothing other than elite performances over the past two seasons. Ian then takes the time to go off on the Bears' decision to hand Andy Dalton the job without even a competition. I mean seriously, I'm still mad about this as I write out the podcast description. What has Dalton even earned? Windy city Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes? Come the hell on Matt Nagy. Anyways, Ian finishes up the podcast with a look at the Bears' other receiving options before giving his rank and take on Robinson's fantasy value ahead of 2021.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, welcome to PFF Fancy Football Podcast. I'm your host Ian Hartenson. Today we continue our Fancy Files series. What's the look? |
| 0:15.0 | And none other than Alan Robinson, who people is just good at football, no doubt about it. We've really seen this from him ever since entering the league. And unfortunately, I mean nobody has been played with worse quarterbacks in Robinson. I think since he came into the league. We'll give Andre Johnson the award for, you know, the first part of the 2000s, you know, up until he was out of the picture. We're not going to count the late Andrew Luckier. He got in there. But for Alan Robinson, you can go back to Penn State. I mean, Matt McGloin, Christian Hacken, |
| 0:45.0 | Bloomberg comes in the Jacksonville. We get the Blake Bordel Chad, Henny experience and believe me, we will get to the Bears. But in Jacksonville, you know, it comes out the first year. He's injured. He only plays 10 games, but impresses enough to, you know, have some just encouraging optimism going in the next year. |
| 1:01.0 | And that's when we got the breakout everybody 80 catches 1400 yards, league high 14 receiving scores in 2015, just a second year in the league. Fortunately, it didn't stick in 2016 people. I mean, this was one of three high usage really busts that we've seen from the wide receiver position in recent memory. I have, I've had a bunch of articles up on pff.com one of the, you know, somewhat arbitrary thresholds. I've been looking at. |
| 1:27.0 | And at the same time, seems to be pretty useful is 150 targets for wide receivers because since 2010, if a wide receiver has gone 150 targets in a year, I mean, we've seen 59 of 65 of those players finish in the top 12 in PPR. And there's actually only been three not post top 24 production. |
| 1:45.0 | 2012, Lurifus Gerald 2016, the Andre Hopkins and 2016, Alan Robinson. So that's the problem with these QBs everybody, even guys like the Andre Hopkins and Alan Robinson. Again, true elite, alpha wide receiver ones at the position, we have seen them bust, even with enough volume. I mean, that's what guys like John Sculton Kevin, call Ryan, Linley, Brian, Horrier, Brian, Horrier, Brock Osweiler, Tom Savage and Blake, Bortles can do to a man. So no, don't fade anybody. |
| 2:14.0 | Projected from Warden 150 targets and just realize if you do take one of these players and they bust you're looking at a true, you know, exception to the role. But anyway, Robinson, unfortunately is 2017 season, the one year Jacksonville is actually a true contender and good. |
| 2:29.0 | He was done after just a couple of snaps, one catch 17 yards, torn ACL, done for the years. So after that, we got see Robinson make his way to the Wendy city and it wasn't immediately great. I mean, he was banged up in 2018 only was able to start 12 games there. |
| 2:45.0 | Finish as the wide receiver 31 and PPR points for game number 28 and PFF receiving grade. But since then, again, this is where we've seen the true top 12 receiver anyway, you want to look at it in 2019, wide receiver 10 and PPR points for game number 13 and 2020, |
| 3:00.0 | number 12, number six and PFF receiving grade along the way. So just in terms of volume, I mean, eighth and reception, 11th and receiving yards tied for 19 touchdowns since it coming to the bears. |
| 3:10.0 | Maybe more tellingly is the fact that he is first and contested catches this is kind of where we're going to start to transition this podcast because people it's been brutal. I mentioned before hackenberg with my gluine, Bordles and Henny since he's been with the bears, Mitchell Trubisky chased Daniel Nick Foles and we're going to have Andy freaking doll and add to this list before too long. So like the bears, |
| 3:31.0 | you don't need me to tell you this, but I will because you know it's a podcast and we're we're having this one way discussion right now bears, QV's absolutely brittle 26 and overall PFF passing grade 30th and passing grade from a clean pocket in 21st, when targeting a receiver considered open or wide open since Alan Robinson got to the picture. |
| 3:48.0 | So even when the situation has been manageable for these bears, QV's they have knock on a done and again credit to Robinson for making a most of this because I mean, if you even want to Robinson a few times over the years, even just seen his highlight videos like this is a situation where you know a lot of times with these wide receivers with a bunch of contests that catches it can end up being just a sign that that receiver can't separate very well. We see Kenny Gallo, I'm tough a lot of these lists. |
| 4:13.0 | And then it pains me to say this my guy, I'll take that's a good kind of knocking at him as well, but Robinson like come on people the route running on this guy has never been nothing short of exceptional. |
| 4:25.0 | I mean the things he's able to do out there just twisting up cornerbacks of all shapes and sizes. And then he's able to come down with the ball really if it's thrown in the general radius of them. I mean, you guys remember the old sport science show where they'd always do these crazy things just have the most absurd stats to kind of tell you how good a player is. |
| 4:41.0 | I mean, I think it's Chad Johnson where they basically had him die full extension throughout their studio and determine that throwing the Chad Johnson is like throwing to an elephant with the amount of you know just area he was able to cover when really stretching out his angle. |
| 4:55.0 | So I'm not exactly sure if out Robinson is like throwing to an elephant, but I would reason that's pretty close if we still had those sports science guys out there. |
| 5:03.0 | But more or more or less or it's not all this we have plenty of damning statistical evidence that Chicago pairs cubies have been the problem and for the love of God just watch the film and you will see that Robinson is not the case. |
| 5:14.0 | Luckily, we don't have to worry about this issue because the public seemingly have their heads on straight and they recognize that on Robinson is not the problem, but it's a good matter because again Robinson like the entrepreneurs. |
| 5:27.0 | We have seen them bus before when the quarterback play has gotten bad enough it can happen and i'm not sure that it's going to necessarily improve this year like I wanted to but why is Andy Dalton having the starting job I mean people Matt naggy in the same freaking interview said that Andy is a starter and that Andy's going to get the one reps and then a couple of sentences later he says that the old is essentially like a rookie as well. |
| 5:52.0 | Let that sink in for a second he just named him the starter settings to get the one reps and then just say is essentially like a rookie as well coaches do this almost in the reverse sometimes like if Bruce Aryan said that Tom Brady is competing for the job just like everyone else we kind of laugh like whatever the competition I get it to not even open up the competition between a guy that you just call a rookie against the rookie that you just trade up for top savior job I mean never. |
| 6:21.0 | Have we seen like an off season 180 as quick as the bears where they got rightfully lauded for a draft where they knew their backs were against the wall they went up and they got field they added some hope on the offensive line it seemed like they did everything right now pf pretty much any freaking website that posted you know post draft grades were pleased with what the bears did last year but now for us to go to that to giving Dalton the job I don't if Dalton wins the job that's fine he might be the best quarterback right away did not even give them that opportunity. |
