So I'm actually going to hand off this week's show to someone else on the team.

For months, Serena Chow has been working on a story about a family secret.

When she first told us this story, we all found it incredibly remarkable.

It's about a secret her dad discovered that would not only redefine his childhood, but his

entire family.

Here's Serena.

Growing up, my dad Matthew was never that close to his father.

His parents divorced when he was five, and after that, my grandpa became the sort of

elusive figure in my dad's life.

But there was one thing my dad could count on, like clockwork.

Every year without fail, my grandpa's stylist always sent him a birthday card.

That is until my dad's 40th birthday.

That year, no card came, not on the day or the next week or the week after.

So when it went about almost two weeks that I hadn't heard from him.

And after many repeated calls to his home, I got concerned.

Silas lived alone.

So my dad called the property managers for his father's apartment complex and asked them

to check on him.

A couple hours later, they called back.

And they said, we found him at his desk.

My dad had passed away.
