Summary

I keep on falling in and out of love with cooking. How about you?

Whether it’s an ultra-busy life or the convenience of ultra-processed food, sometimes we just don’t want to spend time putting a meal together. In fact, you’d rather be anywhere else!

Chef Lauren Kretzer has ideas to reignite the passion for cooking when the love has boiled away like a pot of water left on the stove for too long.

She has tips for turning boring old sandwiches, salads, and pastas into simple masterpieces with easy hacks that can make cooking fun again when she joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room.

Lauren is a cancer survivor whose healthy recipes have been featured by some of the most respected doctors in the United States.

She’ll also be appearing at the Exam Room LIVE show in New York on July 12 alongside Chuck, Dr. Neal Barnard, Rip Esselstyn, Dr. Robert Ostfeld, and Dr. Michelle McMacken.

Coming up on the exam room for someone who's not really used eating fruits and vegetables

0:06.3

and plant-based stuff, that might seem like really overwhelming and frankly gross to

0:10.4

someone who's used eating like a big mac and fries for lunch and I get that.

0:14.6

So maybe you don't put in the shred of Brussels sprouts or the kale, you just start with some

0:18.8

romaine.

0:20.1

And then if you know quinoa something that like you don't want to try just yet, maybe

0:23.9

just put in a little bit of the brown rice which might be a little more familiar to you

0:27.3

or you can leave out the rice entirely.

0:29.4

Like a tofu and tempeh are like still like weird or you know very different from what

0:35.1

you're used to.

0:36.8

Maybe you've been used eating kidney beans.

0:39.8

Starting with foods that you're comfortable with that don't give you anxiety that don't

0:43.7

freak you out that you might already even have in your fridge and build from there.

0:47.6

And then like once this starts being a regular thing for you, you're eating you know maybe

0:51.9

that simpler salad for two or three weeks and now you're used to it and you kind of like

0:56.4

it in your body craves it.

0:58.3

Maybe then you say okay now I'm going to add in like a couple sugar snap peas or something

1:02.7

that maybe you normally wouldn't have had and see how that goes.

1:06.4

So it's an evolution and it's a process but you will really start to become in tune with

1:11.4

what you like and what you're capable of doing from a time perspective and culinary perspective

1:16.8

and you will eventually reach that sweet spot where you're eating more foods, you're feeling

1:21.2

good about it.
