Summary

Are you ready for creepy, cozy reading season? You know we are! On this bookish episode, we share our current reads and TBRs. Plus what our kids are reading, what else we're listening to, and our recent memorable reading moments.

For Friends of the Show on Patreon, we're each sharing a recent book or two that disappointed us! We don't like to bash books publicly, but every reader knows that you need to vent to fellow readers from time to time.

Happy reading!

Welcome to The Girl Next Door. I'm Erica and I'm Kelsey. In every episode, we bring our different

0:08.9

perspectives to candid conversations that feel like chatting with good friends. We started this show

0:14.1

years ago when we were next door neighbors and still haven't run out of things to talk and laugh about

0:18.6

yet. We are back with another bookshelf episode

0:22.4

for you today where we share what's on our bookshelves and what's happening in our reading

0:26.9

lives. There is something about fall that makes both of us so excited to read, like even more

0:32.2

than usual. We love to cozy up with a good book. So it's one of our favorite things to talk about this time of

0:38.2

year. We will actually link to our past episodes with fall bookish recommendations. And if you

0:43.8

really can't get enough book talk, we do have two more in-depth book club episodes over on

0:49.4

Patreon where we dive all the way into the book. Spoilers included, really more of a deep dive discussion.

0:56.3

This year, we have had the Frozen River by Ariel Lahan

1:00.5

and the new menopause by Dr. Mary Claire Haver.

1:04.6

So a little fiction, a little nonfiction.

1:07.1

If you would like to join us over there for just $5 a month,

1:09.8

that is one of the many perks you will get extra content over there.

1:14.9

Okay, let's start with this.

1:17.2

What kind of books do you typically gravitate toward this time of year?

1:21.8

Okay, I personally love a great detective novel.

1:26.2

It needs to have great characters. I think we've talked before

1:30.2

about how you kind of helped me pinpoint. I think that I love a literary detective novel.

1:36.2

You know, great characters, especially love this time of year when there's a cold and or

1:42.3

ideally cold and gritty setting. Oh, okay. You want. You know? I kind of like that. Yes. I want to be, I want to feel like when I'm reading it, I want to feel very cozy. Like, oh, I'm so glad I'm not in that cold, gritty. I see. You know? So not like I picture myself there and it's so lovely. more like I'm so glad I'm here in my sunny climate.
