1 Corinthians chapter 7 verse 17.

0:09.9

Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him and to which God has called him.

0:18.5

So the context for this verse is Paul talking about marriage and

0:23.6

singleness and in this chapter he's actually advocating a lot for singleness as

0:30.3

Paul was single and he's talking about all the advantages and the blessings that come with singleness for the spread of the

0:41.4

gospel and the glory of God and for people's own joy. Not to say that marriage isn't designed in the

0:49.1

same way. It's part of the beauty of what the Bible talks about with both marriage and singleness, that both marriage and singleness are pictures of the gospel that can be stewarded for God's glory.

1:03.8

And the verse here specifically in verse 17, Paul's saying, let each person lead.

1:10.1

The life the Lord is assigned to him and to which God

1:12.5

has called him. Now there's so much we could talk about when it comes to marriage and specifically

which may be different than where God calls you tomorrow. Like, I am married today to my wife,

1:36.7

Heather, and I'm so thankful at the same time I know. Neither Heather or I are guaranteed to have

1:43.0

breath tomorrow. Either one of guaranteed to have breath tomorrow.

1:47.6

Either one of us could be single tomorrow.

1:49.1

But we're married today.

1:56.8

And others may be single today and maybe getting married tomorrow or this next weekend or very soon.

2:00.1

And so that status is about to change for you. The picture, though, that Paul is painting here is as long as you're single, as long as the Lord

2:06.9

assigned you singleness, then thrive in singleness to his glory.

2:11.6

And as long as the Lord assigns you marriage, then thrive in marriage to God's glory.
