Summary

Sure, there are times when it’s just hard to believe what the Catholic Faith tells us, but when someone says “I’m losing my faith,” or “I lost my faith,” there’s something much more serious going on there. Fr. Mike examines this problem, but emphasizes that we actually can’t lose faith because it’s a gift from God. We can use that gift wrongly and put it into what Fr. Mike calls “God’s chief rivals” or, in other words, idols; but the faith is still there and we can still put it in God if we simply choose to. Maybe God is giving you the gift of faith right now, and maybe you just have to use it the way he intends.

0:03.2	So one of the things that I will encounter on a regular basis is people who say either
0:08.0	about themselves or about someone they love, I just lost my faith.
0:11.2	Or they'll say about, you know, maybe one of their kids, my son and my daughter has lost
0:14.7	their faith and my sibling has lost their faith.
0:17.1	Or look at that idea, the concept of, is it possible to lose your faith?
0:28.0	Now a couple of things before that.
0:29.5	One, is it possible to lose your salvation?
0:32.3	Yes, obviously.
0:33.9	St. Paul even talks about this morning, he says, for this reason I drive my body and I train
0:38.8	it for fear that after having preached to others, I myself might become disqualified.
0:43.7	It's possible to lose one's salvation to add.
0:46.4	Have one point say yes to God and then at another point in one's life to say no, in
0:50.4	a definitive way to God.
0:51.9	So that's one thing.
0:52.9	The second thing about faith is we have to understand that faith is both a gift and a
0:57.3	virtue.
0:58.3	What I mean by that is no one can give themselves the gift of faith.
1:02.9	It's always given, right?
1:03.9	That's what a gift is.
1:04.9	It's given.
1:05.9	So it's a gift given to those who believe by God himself.
