If you would go please to 1 Corinthians, the first chapter today, when I've been with you, we've been on a subject we're calling faith in the power.

And we get that from this text here in 1 Corinthians 1.

And then also in chapter 2.

118, 1, 1st Corinthians 118, he said,

The preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness,

but to us which are saved, it's the power of God.

Verse 22, he said, the Jews require a sign and Greeks seek after wisdom.

We preach Christ crucified to the Jews a stumbling block to the Greek's foolishness,

but to them which are called both Jews

and Greeks, Christ, the power of God, and the wisdom of God, because the foolishness of God

is wiser than men and the weakness of God is stronger than men. And so these two groups are still with us today

in that there are those who pursue intellectual things

and they're looking for, quote, wisdom, knowledge.

And that describes a lot of our society in the U.S. and Europe today because of

additional education that in previous times wasn't as available. A lot of people have, you know,

early school and high school and college and some even, you know,

beyond that. And so there's big emphasis on knowledge and learning. But that's not all there

is to life and to existence.

And then he mentions at that point the Jews sought a sign, and that's a power sign.

And of course, how did they come into covenant?

Well, with fire coming down on the mountain, you know.

And their forefathers experienced glory and power.
