It's the Gist I'm Mike Pesca, the trial today of Alec Baldwin begins in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

He killed, I was going to say is alleged to have killed,

but he certainly killed cinematographer

Hala Hutchins when he pointed a loaded gun at her

while acting in the movie Rust.

Now, I'm a little conflicted. In fact I was

conflicted. Then I stopped being conflicted about caring about this story because even though

Alec Baldwin is I think quite unfairly accused, he's rich, his privileged, he is white, he has all the best lawyers,

he did a dumb interview probably against the advice of his lawyers, and why don't I care about

others who are less privileged less rich

less white if I knew about them I would so staring at the details of this case I

just can't believe we're at a trial and it seems to me that it comes down to why did

Alec Baldwin shoot and kill this woman because he was handed a gun that he was

told as per the rules of a Hollywood movie set, he was told it wasn't loaded.

And when it was loaded, which has been adjudicated, and the armorer on the movie is serving jail time when it was loaded he should not be blamed now I guess there is a counter argument

and I've been trying to find it from anyone other than the exact

prosecutors in this case or people who are political

opponents of Alec Baldwin or just hate him politically. I've been trying to

find anyone who can articulate, as I suppose they will in opening statements, the idea that

Alec Baldwin is responsible and the best argument comes down to it doesn't matter

if he thought the gun wasn't loaded or if he thought there were no live rounds.
