Coming up on forum, after the deadly insurrection of January 6th, Twitter and other social

media companies permanently banned Donald Trump from their platforms for inciting the violent

mob that overran the U.S. Capitol.

Facebook indefinitely suspended the ex-presidents account, and its oversight board is

considering whether to make that permanent. But the bans raise complicated questions about

whether powerful tech companies should have the unchecked ability to remove people from their

platforms and when, the law and politics of deplatforming after this news.

This is Forum. I'm Mina Kim. Facebook formed an oversight board last year that's reviewing the company's decision to suspend indefinitely Donald Trump's account in the wake of the insurrection.

Yesterday, that board issued five other rulings, four of which overturned Facebook's decision to remove posts, a potential sign of the board's reluctance to police speech.
