It's Sunday, July 22nd. I'm Margaret Brennan and this is Face the Nation.

The showdown between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin ended with a light-hearted

moment.

But the fallout over the conflicting responses from the president over whether or not he believes

Putin meddled in U.S US elections in 2016 or today led to a week of

punishing headlines and widespread criticism, frustration, and outrage from even

loyal supporters of the president.

There's been no president ever as tough as I have been on Russia.

But few other than the president believe that and there are still more questions and answers about what was

agreed to behind closed doors. There's also growing evidence about Russia's

continued attempts to interfere in our elections. Two key Republican

senators South Carolina is Lindsay Graham, and Florida's

Marco Rubio, both criticized the president for his Helsinki performance. We'll see where they

stand after a week of presidential backtracking.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry will tell us about the Obama administration's efforts

to challenge Putin on meddling.
