I'm Margaret Brennan in Washington and this week on Face the Nation the government's plan to vaccinate Americans is already showing signs of strain as the number of coronavirus cases and deaths climbs higher than ever and concern over a

new variant of the virus grows.

It's been a sobering start to 2021.

Bad behavior over the holidays, as defined by CDC guidelines,

threatens to make January the deadliest month yet in the year

since the virus was discovered. The US has now recorded

over 20 million infections, a number that's doubled in the last eight weeks. In some parts of

the country, hospitals, morgue and funeral homes are at or over capacity.

Health care workers are overwhelmed.
