0:10.0	Last time in chapters 5 and 6 of Ezra, the first wave of exiles had been experiencing a lot of opposition, maybe similar to us. So God
0:22.5	intervened behind the scenes, providentially paving the way for the exiles to rebuild. First, he sent
0:28.2	support in the form of two prophets, Haggai and Zechariah. Then a new Persian governor named
0:34.1	Tattani arrived. He asked fair questions and sent to the king for answers to verify the
0:40.0	truth. The king dug into it and discovered that Cyrus had decreed the rebuilding of Jerusalem in the
0:46.1	temple. God brought the truth to light through another Persian king, King Darius, who issued a decree
0:52.7	to protect the returned exiles. Due to God's providence,
0:56.5	the opposition was halted and the temple was completed. Well, there are several patterns I want
1:02.0	to cover in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah before we dig in. For example, each of the three
1:07.7	returns to Judah involved some kind of building.
1:11.9	In Ezra chapters 1 through 6, we discussed the first wave of exiles led by Zerubable.
1:18.6	Now, Zerubable focused on building the temple so they could worship.
1:22.9	In these next four chapters, we will discuss the second wave led by Ezra.
1:28.6	Ezra will focus on building the faith of the people.
1:33.2	They must be faithful to God and follow his commands, or exile will once again be their fate.
1:39.4	The last wave of exiles will be covered in the book of Nehemiah.
1:47.1	Nehemiah will focus on building the wall.
1:52.8	So building the temple, building the faith, building the wall to protect them from their enemies.
2:01.9	Now another pattern between all three of these rebuilds is that each return begins with a decree from one of the kings of Persia.
2:05.6	Each leader will face opposition of some kind,
2:10.2	and each leader will be victorious in overcoming the opposition.
