So let's get straight into it. Let's start by talking about

blephoritis. Bliferitis refers to inflammation of the eyelid margins, of the edge of the

eyelids. It causes a gritty, itchy, dry sensation in the eyes. It can be associated with dysfunction of the mybomian glands,

which are responsible for secreting mybum or oil onto the surface of the eye.

Blephoritis can lead to styes and calaisians.

Management is with warm compresses and gentle cleaning of the eyelid margins

to remove debris, for example using a cotton bud and baby shampoo. Next let's talk about styes.

Hordeolum externum is an infection of the glands of zees or the glands of mole.

The glands of mull are sweat glands at the base of the eyelashes.

The glands of zes are sebaceous glands at the base of the eyelashes.

A stye causes a tender red lump along the eyelid that may contain pus.

Hordeolum internum is infection of the mybomian glands. Compared with Hordeolum exterum,

Hordeolum internum tend to be deeper, more painful and may point

inwards towards the eyeball underneath the eyelid.

Sties are treated with warm compresses and analgesia.

Topical antibiotics, for example chloramphenicol, may be considered if it's associated with conjunctivitis
