cobblestone lanes,

Alfresco dining and sitting in the sun,

contemplating ancient Rome

or another round of apperels.

and over the past few days,

amid a record-breaking global heat wave,

the reality of life in the Italian capital

has been just a little bit different.

It feels stifling.

I've been here for 10 years

and I lived in the UAE for five years

and this is feeling like life did in the UAE

in that you feel as if you're trapped inside,

whether that's at home or just wandering around

a shopping centre and people do look tired,

they look exhausted as if they're kind of wilting.
