2020, the pandemic and the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Louisiana's new Republican Governor Jeff Landry recently declaring a state of emergency and

lifting hiring and payroll limits on Sheriff's Departments.

The Governor of former police officer and Sheriff's Deputy says Louisiana alone needs

hundreds of deputies,

state police and New Orleans officers,

and that 78% of law enforcement agencies across the country

by having problems with recruitment.

He also opened a special session of the state legislature on crime

by calling for steps to restore balance in the criminal justice system. Proposals include

restricting eligibility for parole for a

felony to 17 and immunity from liability for law enforcement officers
