The moment that changed an election, that's part of how Washington examine her political reporter Selena Zito remembers the Trump assassination attempt during the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July.

She was there when the shots were fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, raising the ear of the then

former president, critically injuring two men, and killing husband, father, and firefighter,

Corey Comparator, who was hit while shielding his family from the gunfire. Though the Secret Service

says major changes have since been made, questions about security failures persist. We spoke with Zito about

her perspectives from that day and the months leading up to it, including a Trump comeback, she

says, was already underway. And her new book, Butler, the untold story of the near assassination

of Donald Trump and the fight for America's heartland. We made some edits for time and thought he might like to hear the whole thing.
