Summary

The legislative branch of government, entrusted with the formulation of laws, must operate within defined constraints and not wield unchecked, capricious authority over the personal lives and economic prospects of its citizens. Absolute, arbitrary power concentrated in the hands of any governing body is antithetical to the fundamental principles of liberty and justice that underpin a free society. The role of lawmakers should be to enshrine and safeguard the inalienable rights of individuals, not to subjugate them to the whims of unrestrained state control.
