I'm thinking at this moment about what has transpired over the last week or so.

The tension and the debate over monuments and statues of Columbus

that have played out across our nation.

I think of the city of Philadelphia,

the city of brotherly love that placed a box over a Columbus statue, a box that remains in place covering the statue to this very

moment.

I think of President Joe Biden, who issued the first presidential proclamation of, quote,

Indigenous People's Day, an attempt to refocus the federal holiday away from Christopher Columbus.

And as I think about these things, I wonder what would motivate supposed exemplars of social

justice to behave with wanton recklessness, and that in a supposed era of wokenness and progressive values.

Maybe, well, maybe it could be that from grade school onward, they have been indoctrinated

by the teachings of men such as Frederick Engels, a man who scornfully dubbed Columbus an early capitalist, that from the pen of the co-author of the Communist Manifesto.

Might it be that in concert with the Ku Klux Klan, these woke educators are attacking Columbus

because of their hatred of Christianity?

Could it be that their anger over Columbus's intention to spread the message of Christ to those he encountered in the new world simply doesn't pass muster in our time?

Could it be that they're upset about the deeply held Christian convictions that are so prominently displayed in Columbus's documents and diaries?

When I think about all of these questions and others as well, I think also about how these

questions are answered in page after page of Google searches,

answered with exclamations that Columbus was a nefarious character,

that he was a ruthless money-grubbing genocidal maniac.
