SCP 9,001, Fractal, Part 1.

What exactly is a fractal?

As someone with practically no knowledge about mathematics, fractals are something in mathematics that sound really complicated.

To people without an interest in mathematics, however, a fractal is a shape that contains that

same shape an infinite amount of times inside of it, depending on the scale you're looking

at.

To simpletons, such as myself, however, a fractal is just a really cool image that we used to use

for Winamp visualizers.

For the SCP Foundation, however, fractal images are often used in the context of cognito hazards,

an anomaly triggered when perceived in some way.

The most well known is the one that protects the SCP-001 file, an image that kills anyone who views it without the proper

authorization. They're both a tool used by the foundation, as well as a threat that unfortunate

agents and teams discover out in the wild, but SCP 9,001 concerns itself more with the first

aspect. It takes a look at a team of researchers devoted to creating even stronger and more effective

cognito hazards, a plan that cannot possibly go wrong.

In terms of visual cognito-hazards, it's not as simple as targeting the lateral geniculate nucleus,

nor is it merely a matter of V2 processing that renders the agent effective.
