As we wrap up our month of spooky shows, and what is spooky here, then thinking about how groups of people come together for a specific purpose that's not known.

That's secret. And so our topic in this week's episode is secret societies and organizations. And Samantha is going to start us off. So it's all your Samantha.

Okay, so I'm going to start by discussing the Rosa Crucians.

Legend says that a young boy of noble birth who was either orphaned or impoverished at a young age, you can read different stories about his humble upbringing.

Was taken into the care of a monastery at the age of five. And he spent the next 10 years at this monastery before he headed off for Damascus to learn from Muslim alchemist.

It said here that they taught him a secret that the church teachers had hidden. And this secret was that Jesus wasn't immortal or divine, but rather an enlightened being who had learned the secrets of transformation or what we would call alchemy.

He said to have learned at the feet of Sufi and Zoroastrian masters studied under Persian and Arab sages and became a doctor. When this young man who legend says was named Christian Rosencruz, returned home to Europe to share these alchemical secrets. His peers laughed at him.

So he began teaching what he had learned in secret. And he named the organization the Rosa Crucians or Rosie cross, which is said to symbolize the beauty and pain of living on earth and represent the transformation through the cross that awaits us all.

Christian Rosencruz is said to have established this Rosa Crucian society in the 15th century. However, some say the secret society is much, much older with legend saying it began in the year 46 AD.

Other legends say that Christian Rosencruz would later be known as Saint Germain, you know, the count we've talked about on a show who was said to be immortal and an alchemist and all sorts of cool stuff.

Other legends say he's France is bacon. However, it's important to note that no historical records of a man named Christian Rosencruz have been uncovered.

Still, the secret society allegedly founded by him is a fascinating one to dive into. The real meat of the rumors surrounding the secret society began in the early 17th century.

When papers or manifestos were published anonymously telling the story of Christian Rosencruz and the secret society known as the Rosa Crucians.

The manifestos stated that the group was quote, built on esoteric truths of the ancient past, which had been concealed from the average man, but when learned could provide insight into the physical universe and the spiritual realm.

One early member wrote, our origins are Egyptian, Brahminic, derived from the mysteries of eluses and Samothrais, the magi of Persia, the Pythagorean and the Arabs.

Each member had to swear six oaths in order to be inducted into the order of the Rosie Cross.

They had to promise to heal the sick without accepting payment to not wear any robes or ceremonial garb revealing their membership, to attend an annual meeting, to maintain a secret fellowship, and to find an initiate before one's death to mentor and replace yourself.

All initial members were said to have lived long, healthy and wealthy lives. Rosencruz was said to have healed the Earl of Norfolk from leprosy before he died at the age of 106.
