Elrond and Galadriel. Throughout the ages of Middle Earth, there have been a number of great,

wise, and powerful elves. We have already discussed such elves as Feanor and Fengulfin, and there

is also Glorffindel and Calabrimbor, but in the third age of Middle Earth, there was inarguably

no greater elves than Elrond and Galadriel.

While fans of the Lord of the Rings will certainly be aware of their roles in the War of the Ring,

this video will also discuss their back stories and how they became such important members of Middle Earth.

Galadriel was born in the years of the trees in Volonor, the son of one of the brothers of Feanor.

Her father named her Artanis, meaning noble woman, and her hair was a unique and dazzling blend

of gold and silver, said by some to have captured the light of the two trees.

One legend says that Galadriel's hair is what inspired Feanor to capture the light of the two

trees into

the Sumerils. Her mother was of a different house of elves than her father, but since her grandfather

was king of the Noldor elves, she was a princess of that house. When Feanor swore his oath to

recover the Sumerils, it kindled the desire in her heart to see Middle Earth, and although she did participate

in the revolt with the other Nolador elves, she actually fought against Feanor when he attacked

the Tilleri elves for their ships, as they were part of her mother's house.

Regardless, Galadriel was left behind when Feanor used the ships to cross to Middle Earth,

and so she went north with

her brothers and Fingulfan to cross the icy waste. Upon arriving in Middle Earth, she, along with

her oldest brother Finrod, came upon Doriath, home of King Thingol. It was here that she met

Kelleborn, who would later become her husband. Galadriel would spend most of the

first age in Doriath with her husband, or with Finrod in the fortress that he had established.
