The kids are playing over here in the grass.

It's a beautiful day to talk about exorcisms.

You guys see the movies, the exorcists and stuff like that.

What is happening there is they're expelling the death from around them.

And God asks us to do the same, to expel the dead from around you.

In Matthew chapter 9, verse 24, Jesus says, leave, for the girl is asleep, she is not dead.

And it says that they began to laugh and scoff and mock him.

What's happening here is a religious leader asked Jesus for help because his daughter died.

Jesus goes to his house and says she's asleep. She's not dead.

There are some hired mourners there.

Back then, you would hire people to come mourn at your wedding.

It's kind of a religious motion thing that they did

just to make the funerals seem more serious and more spiritual.

And it was just this wacko kind of crazy thing.

Now, Jesus says, have them leave because I have the power to resurrect.

When Jesus said she is asleep, she's not dead, what he was saying is,

I have the resurrection, new life power in me.

The idea of calling someone sleeping when they're actually dead was not a foreign thing. They would use that to

just, you know, to say like all is not lost. They're alive with the Lord. And so no one had ever heard of

or seen any type of resurrection power in a person since Elijah, which is hundreds of years ago.

So for Jesus, a normal looking Jewish man,
