Welcome to Part 2 with Dave Hadlock, Exodus 7 to 13.

0:05.7

When we think about this idea of bondage in the scriptures and release from bondage, my mind immediately goes to Nephi.

0:14.9

When Nephi talks about the reason and the purpose behind his writing on those plates. Do you recall what he says?

0:23.5

He has a very specific purpose for writing on these particular plates. In first Nephi,

0:31.2

chapter one verse 20, about halfway through the verse, it says, but behold, I Nephi, will show unto that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen because of their faith to make them mighty even under the power of deliverance.

0:48.0

Nephi's whole purpose in writing is to show people what?

0:52.0

That God can change them to the point where they become mighty under the

0:56.5

power of deliverance. Here we have in the book of Exodus, an account of a people who are

1:01.9

1:10.3

I was asked one time by someone, if I were going to read one part of the book of Mormon, what would I recommend someone read?

1:18.2

I would recommend someone reads First Nephi, because that's where we all start and stop anyways.

1:23.9

You may as well just go with your initial intuition.

1:31.0

Start in First Nephi chapter one and read First Nephi looking for how God delivers Nephi. Think with me out loud some of the passages from the

1:39.9

book of Nephi in which he demonstrates God's deliverance in his own life.

1:46.0

We can go story by story. One of the first ones I would think of is, he said,

1:51.5

the Lord softened my heart. That's early on, that he would accept it as the Lord's will,

1:57.5

that they leave Jerusalem. Then you have his brothers, how many times, tie him up?

2:04.4

He is delivered.

2:05.9

The ship.

2:07.4

He is delivered.

2:08.3

Laban and the plates.

2:10.8

His brothers are beating him with a rod.
