ancient scripture and an affiliate faculty member of the ancient Near Eastern Studies program at

BYU. He was born and raised in Chicago, served a full-time mission in the California Santa Rosa

mission and attended BYU where he received a BA in Near Eastern Studies and then received an MA

in archaeology and the history of antiquity from Andrews University, PhD in Mediterranean religions

with a major emphasis on archaeology and history of early Judaism and a minor emphasis on New

Testament studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before being hired by BYU

in the Department of Ancient Scripture. Dr. Gray taught Institute of Religion at the University of
