Book Club, we read it to you. And this book can change your life. So can we be the first to say,

0:18.3

Welcome to the Club. When last we left off in chapter 20, Moses had come

0:29.1

full circle. If you'll remember when he first started his mission back at Mount Sinai,

0:34.8

way back in the beginning of Exodus, he met God in a burning bush,

0:38.1

and his only responsibility was to herd sheep. And that prepared him for this colossal journey

0:44.2

that he would go on where he was hurting the entire flock of Israel. So in chapter 20, he is back

0:51.6

at Mount Sinai, where the presence of God has grown from the size of that bush into a dark, thundering cloud that covers the entire mountain. His responsibility grew, no more little sheep. It's now 2 million people, Israelites. Then Moses, after many trips up and down that mountain, up and down again and getting frustrated with God.

1:12.0

We had to receive the Ten Commandments. And we have two divisions. So we went through the commandments,

1:18.2

one through four. That's getting your relationship right with God. And then the commandments five

1:22.1

through ten, talk about getting your relationship right with people. Right. And that theme's going to

1:26.7

continue in a cool

1:28.0

way through Exodus, which I never recognized before. So we're going to hit on that. In today's

1:32.6

episode and the next one, we have a three-chapter break from our Moses narrative. Let me repeat that.

1:40.4

We have been on this kind of narrative story of Moses. And all of a sudden, we're going to take a three-chapter break. And in that break, Moses is going to stop tracking up and down the mountain. And instead, he's going to lay out the detail of all these laws. Many people feel that these laws, which are called the Book of the Covenant, are an interruption to the story about

2:02.9

Moses. And so they skip them. For the Israelites, however, these words from God were the beginning

2:09.8

of their relationship with Him. They would finally know what God wants them to do, how to love him,

2:16.9

and how to love others. And just as we pour over

2:20.5

the New Testament today, they devoured these long-awaited instructions that would help

2:26.9

govern them into becoming the great nation God had promised to Abraham. Yeah, and can I tell you

2:33.0

something that your husband, Susan, actually taught me is that all scripture is important.

2:40.4

Yes.
