| 0:00.0 | Hey, Deserving Listeners. We have two special guests with us today. Dan reached out to me recently and said he wanted to talk about something, and I didn't really even vet what he wanted to talk about because I just trust him so much. He's a podcaster and a smart guy. You might know him from previous episodes where we talked about liberal Christian therapy and other things like that. |
| 0:23.1 | He's a fellow musician and songwriter and friend and local guy. |
| 0:29.7 | And so I said, whatever you want to talk about, Dan, let's talk about. |
| 0:33.5 | So introduce yourself to the podcast, Dan. |
| 0:35.4 | Yeah, I'm Dr. Dan Koch. |
| 0:39.0 | I'm a licensed therapist in Bellingham, Washington. And I'm also the host of the Religion on the Mind podcast, which the mini |
| 0:45.5 | series we're kind of talking about today started airing there in March, this series of five |
| 0:51.7 | episodes that we called Anxious Times. And my co-host for that journey is our |
| 0:57.6 | friend here today, Kristen Tiedman. What's up, Kristen? Hello, hello. Kristen and I are kind of |
| 1:04.0 | collaborators over the last few years on a number of different projects. And the origin of the series is kind of the best way to explain it. So I had |
| 1:15.8 | gotten into existential therapy and existential psychology kind of organically as part of the |
| 1:23.4 | process of working with my clients. So I had always been interested in it in grad school |
| 1:28.4 | and stuff like that, but then finally kind of getting done with internship, putting out my shingle, |
| 1:33.1 | having more brain space as I'm working with clients, recognizing, oh, some of that existential |
| 1:38.4 | therapy stuff around, you know, fear of death and non-existence, reworking identity and meaning. My specialty is with people |
| 1:47.2 | who've experienced religious change of some sort, like they've converted out of a religion, |
| 1:52.2 | or they've deconstructed, changed their faith, and now there's family issues maybe, |
| 1:57.1 | and there's meaning issues, identity issues, new anxieties popping up, you know, things like |
| 2:01.9 | this. I started looking into it. And then as I was doing that, some other things were happening |
| 2:07.6 | in Kristen's life. Kristen, why don't you share that? Yeah. So almost a year ago in June, I had my first child, which obviously changed a lot in your life, |
| 2:22.4 | but somewhat connected to that about three months later, I had the onset of multiple sclerosis, |
| 2:31.3 | which oftentimes actually it's common when people give birth that in the months |
