Yesterday, the Colorado Senate held a public hearing, allowing people to express their support or opposition to Senate Bill 25-003. This bill seeks to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. During the ten-hour hearing, Joe and others at the Capitol shared their thoughts on the events as they unfolded.

0:00.0 | Okay, so we're live at the Capitol, the Colorado, and I want to basically give everybody an |
0:05.8 | idea of what's happening here. Number one, the first thing that I don't see happening very much |
0:10.8 | is them talking about the, it's always the feelings, it's never the facts. So they're not talking |
0:16.4 | about the fact that there's this thing called the 10th Amendment. I've asked about 15 people inside of the room |
0:22.4 | whether or not they knew what the 10th Amendment was. Now, these are all people that are for, |
0:26.9 | or excuse me, against them passing this assault weapons ban, which in essence is what it is. |
0:31.9 | They want to have a, basically follow the same formula that they have in California. But I asked |
0:37.0 | everyone what the, you know, tell me the significance of the 10th Amendment as we have |
0:40.4 | these conversations. |
0:41.6 | And not one person can answer it. |

0:51.3 | those are held to the Fed, the federal government. They have, those are the laws, those are the rights that are protected under the Constitution, those are held to the Fed, the federal government. |
0:58.6 | They have, those are the law, those are the rights that are protected under the Constitution. |

1:07.3 | Well, the problem with this is that the Tenth Amendment basically says that if it's written in the Constitution, it is a federal law. |
1:13.6 | It is a federal standard. |
1:15.7 | Well, the Second Amendment is federal. |
1:18.1 | So there shouldn't be a disagreement or an argument over laws being passed at the state level that they have no jurisdiction by which to file or fall or create. And you could have the argument, well, they have to keep |
1:31.2 | people safe. Well, then you have to bring it back to the federal government. So this same argument |
1:35.3 | was used in the anti-abortion movement or the abortion movement on both sides. And what they |
1:41.2 | basically said is that it's not enumerated in the Constitution, therefore it has to be left to the states. |
