My guest today is Takuya Nakamura, a Tokyo-born New York-based trumpeter, pianist, and DJ, who spent more than three decades blending jazz and jungle to create a unique hybrid live performance.

Nakamura is classically trained.

He studied at the New England Conservatory and has been composing and performing cosmic jazz, as he calls it, for more than 30 years.

But he's recently become one of the most talked about shows among a young generation

jungle revivalists, seeing a surge of popularity after his various live video streams have gone

unexpectedly viral. I asked Nakamura why he thinks his career has reached such new heights,

but if he told me, I don't change myself, the world changes. We chatted about his growing up in Tokyo,

the Japanese jazz scene, and his dream to start a music festival in the Japanese countryside.

We also discussed the evolution of jungle. What young jungleists like Tim Reaper are doing differently,

why he loves performing in the UK, and how it's helped breathe new life

into the traditional jazz music canon. Many of you may know Nakamura from his lot radio sets,
