We're back with the new season, and we're kicking things off with a special guest.

Ed O'Brien is best known as a guitarist in Radiohead, one of the most mythologized and

occasionally polarizing bands of the last 40 years.

He joins Gabe Satan on the exchange to talk about his new album, Blue Morpho.

But to understand why this record exists and why it sounds like it does,

you have to understand what striking out solo actually means for someone in O'Brien's position.

For four decades, his role in Radiohead has been one of service, supporting Tom York's songs,

adding texture and depth, rounding out other people's ideas. He comes from a guitar tradition

of players who serve the song rather than themselves.

Blue Morpho is his second solo record.

The themes running through it are spiritual in the broadest sense.

With anything related to group dynamics or global affairs averted by request,
