My name is John Vesco. When I was nine, something strange happened with my mother.

She was a completely normal mom to me, and not in the least a bit superstitious or religious or

over-imaginative, but on Halloween night,

she suddenly wouldn't let me go trick-or-treating for some reason, just would not allow it.

She had some kind of talk with my father behind closed doors and got upset, and in the end,

she took me to a kids party at the community center,

which was actually not bad at all. That night, a drunk guy in a van struck a power pole on the

street where every homeowner agreed to go all out with their decorations every year, create a real carnival atmosphere,

and the downed line conducted a fatal charge along a metal fence to a spot a man and woman

were standing beside. They were dressed as creepy dolls. They were both killed.

That street would have been the first stop on my rounds that night.

I didn't learn till a year later that my mother believed she had dreamed of the accident the night before,
