Hello everyone.

Welcome to talk nerdy. I am your host Kara Santa Maria and if you are

listening to this episode in real time and you also keep up with me via social media then you may know about some crazy stuff that's been going down for

the past week. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen that just a few days

ago actually, I received a message through Facebook from a

gentleman living in Saudi Arabia a young man I think early 20s and he was concerned because he's an atheist he's a

non-believer and his father found out and his father threatened to turn him into the authorities and of course in Saudi Arabia

this would be viewed as apostasy which is a transgression that's punishable by death

so we really felt like the situation was dire.

I was really concerned about him but didn't know what to do.

I originally just said, you know, maybe you can go to the U.S. embassy.

I'm not really sure how to handle the situation.

Through more research, we discovered that he has dual citizenship, that he was born in America,

and was finally able to get a hold of his passport.

And through the combined efforts of Sarah Morehead

over at recovering from religion.org

and also from Faizal Said al-mutar at movements dot org we were able to mobilize

just this incredible outpouring of support and both financial and just like morale support via social media.

So it just goes to show, I mean over the course of I want to say 48 hours we were able to raise enough money to get a plane ticket

get this guy to safety get him out of his house he snuck out in the middle of the night

went to the airport had this very long layover, but finally made it to the U.S.

safely, and now he is not at risk anymore of being tried or I mean tried that's a that's I guess a
