0:11.0	I'm Patrick Miller. And I'm Keith Simon. Right now we're
0:14.6	working through 1st Corinthians 13, Paul's definition of love. Years ago I was at
0:20.6	this event and I struck up a conversation with a guy I didn't know very well.
0:26.2	He'd been engaged for about a year and he was telling me how excited he was to get married. And so I'm just trying to make small talk and I ask him what was he most excited about?
0:39.0	Well, his answer was shockingly, surprisingly honest.
0:44.8	He says, well, to be honest with you,
0:47.3	I think she'll finally stop cheating on me.
0:50.7	Stop cheating on you. He explained that during their dating relationship they both had
0:56.8	cheated on each other. But once they got engaged he finally stopped. For some reason the commitment that changed him,
1:06.0	but apparently it hadn't changed her.
1:09.0	And he was thinking that once they got married,
1:11.0	maybe that commitment, that would be the thing that finally changes her as well.
1:17.2	He's kind of waiting on me to respond and to be honest I'm not sure what to say.
1:21.3	I don't know him very well but I decided that maybe
1:25.2	honesty was the best policy when it comes to such a giant life decision and so I
1:30.5	looked at him and I said I don't know how to put this, but I think you guys might want to call this off.
1:37.0	You see, cheating, it shows your heart's desire.
1:41.0	It shows your heart's true disposition. It shows what your heart truly
1:46.6	delights in. And both you and your future wife, you guys have a history of delighting and the love of others and I'm not sure
1:55.8	that making a commitment is going to be the way to change that. Like it or not we
2:02.4	humans we don't direct ourselves through the world using our commitments, our rational functions.
