Summary

Lurie delivers a passionate wake-up call about white Christian nationalists who claim Christians must defend slavery because 'the Bible says so.' All right, good people. So today is Monday, October the 20th. Lots to get into. And congratulations to the righteous and all the allies who were out at the No Kings rally over the weekend. Y'all did an amazing job at this demonstration. They say now more than 7 million people were in attendance. I'm hearing and reading and reports that this was the largest

0:20.9

said protest of this sort in American history. Good job. Now, I don't know if it was the largest

0:27.9

in comparison to like, you know, there's always these qualifiers. Like, well, in the Vietnam War,

0:32.2

we had protests that were this large, but they lasted this many days. All I know is y'all did a damn

0:36.2

good job. And it's important that you did a damn good job because while you were doing that, y'all's president

0:41.0

and the rest of the nation were kind of engaged in some real not so goodness, not so goodness.

0:48.1

They were engaged in things like calling the protest or I shouldn't even call it a protest

0:54.0

and we'll talk about the difference between

0:55.2

why I'm not calling it a protest. I think I may have previously, but it was definitely a March, a demonstration. But we saw in the lead up to the march and demonstration that there was this effort from the right wing to say that this was then, I hate America rally. People were very much up in there.

They're holier than thouness.

1:10.9

You had the Republicans saying it was going to be terrible.

1:13.0

There was going to be anarchy.

1:14.0

It was going to be awful. people were very much up in there. They're holier than thouness. You have the Republicans saying

1:12.0

it was going to be terrible. There was going to be anarchy. It was going to be awful.

1:15.1

Child, that protest was so huge. And yet in New York City, not a single person was arrested.

1:20.8

I don't know that that's ever happened that we do not have a single arrest connection to a protest.

1:26.6

In fact, I was scouring the news over the weekend to

1:29.0

see what sorts of arrests had been made. And the ones I came up with were like mega radical

1:34.7

Republican parks truck covered in Trump paraphernalia in like front of a fire hydrant. Basically,

1:41.7

he parked his car. Maybe didn't pay the parking meter. I don't remember if it was a non-parking meter if he just parked in a non-designated parking zone. But he gets real upset and then decides he's going to pull out that thing on him and then wave it at the people who are protesting. He ends up getting arrested for doing that because you can't do that. And then his car gets towed. I thought that was great. That was great. but it was wonderful and today on the show we got a chance to hear from people who were at the protest now again i don't my bad i called it a protest again damn it the march or the rally and again the difference matters and we're going to get to that in just a second as i told y'all on friday i was not going i was not going be there but looks as though those of you who were. And there were some of us out there. Some of the global majority was present. I understand it. I get it. Somebody got to do that work. And I'm just grateful that it was a powerful demonstration of exactly what it is that people are concerned about. Now, I've stumbled a couple of times this morning already talking about the difference between a demonstration and a protest. And this really matters. And I saw some fantastic commentary on this over the weekend because I, quite frankly, was one of those people who was kind of like, y'all going to do all this gathering and you ain't got no demands. You ain't got no, what's your protest strategy? What's your long-term sustainability for the protest? Like, I don't even know

2:51.4

what y'all trying to do. And I was kind of critical about it. I definitely used my microphone in some

2:57.0

ways to be a little snarky about the march. That is true. And I think I owe you an apology if you felt
