What started as an idea between three people who came from completely different professional backgrounds turned into one of the only sports bars intentionally created for our community. If you have a dream and you’re wondering if it’s too far fetched or if you’re qualified this is the episode for you!  Follow our guest @blazerssportbar, follow the show @madeitout and follow Mal @malglowenke. Hey, y'all, welcome back to Made It Out. Today I'm here with Chandler Robertson, who is one of the owners of Blazers Sports Bar.

0:07.7

Ooh!

0:09.7

I'm so excited to talk to you.

0:11.6

I'm so excited to be here. Thank you so much for having me.

0:13.7

Of course.

0:33.9

Before we get started, I want you to kind of paint the scene of the New York lesbian bars when you all were entering.

0:35.0

Yeah.

0:41.3

So, I mean, it's hard because we have so few spaces. Right. And so,

0:47.3

I mean, I can remember, like, one, specifically lesbian bar opening up in the last, like, a handful of years. And there are other queer bars opening up, but the scene is just in

0:53.1

desperate need of more spaces. And it's also hard

0:57.1

because a lot of them are more dance-centric. They're a little bit younger geared, like, geared for

1:03.0

younger people. And so it felt like there were so many gaps where it was hard to find a bar where

1:08.8

if you wanted to just go and have a drink, or if you wanted a more calm atmosphere, if you wanted to meet folks who were in their 30s.

1:16.3

It's hard because I celebrate truly any queer bar that's open and running. And even if it's, you know, like a gay male bar, I think all spaces are necessary and need to be kept alive. It was hard because

1:29.4

you were, you know, with your girls and you were like, where should we go? You had like a one

1:34.6

handsworth of spaces where you thought that you could maybe go. And I don't think people realize that.

1:39.6

Like, I don't think people realize that even in New York and L.A., there are not queer women spaces,

1:47.0

like many of them.

1:48.0

Yeah, and, like, those are probably the two cities that have maybe, like, the most, like,

1:51.3

per capita queer women who have, like, the numbers and the spending power to, like, bring

1:58.6

these spaces to life.

2:00.2

Yeah.
