I had this sermon written several weeks ago. That surprises some of you.

You think I'm just up here coming up with it on the fly. But that's not true. I had it written a while

ago. Had my ideas on paper, typed out my notes,

been prayerful and thoughtful about what God might

want to share with us as a church family this week.

So I had this written before the events of this past week,

before the announcement that Charlie Kirk had been assassinated.

I had already written a lot of this sermon. He was,

of course, best known as political activist, but his hope was really never in politics. If you

listen to some of him in this last week or two, you probably have heard that. I'm thankful for

his faith in Jesus. A few days before he was killed, he tweeted the gospel.

He just said, Jesus defeated death so that you can live.

And that, listen, that is the platform.

That's the platform.

That Jesus has died so that we can live, that ultimately, Jesus is the answer.

Doesn't mean there aren't things here that matter.

It doesn't mean that we shouldn't intentionally engage.

It's just to understand that he is the only hope that doesn't disappoint.

Everything else will let us down.
