The motion of vacate was brought back to the House of Representatives this Congress under the current rules. Any one member can bring up the motion and eventually have a vote to remove the Speaker of the House. Now over 40 Republicans have signed a letter asking for quote fundamental changes to the structure of our majority while it doesn't include specifics. Many would like to see the motion of vacate reformed.

We just need to figure out how to cover. We're speaking to South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson. And I think there is some sense that with even with his gist of the leaders Jim Jordan and Steve Scales are that if we just put them back into the same terribly dysfunctional mass that Kevin McCarthy was yet.

1:38.0

Not of Kevin McCarthy's making I would know we just changed the name of the door. It's going to be the same clown car with a different driver.

1:48.0

And so that brings us back to the motion to vacate that you can you cannot empower one one Republican to work with all of the Democrats to destabilize all of the momentum we had had in the House.

2:03.0

Freely, it's not democratic. When you look at it, is it easy to remove a president? No, it's incredibly difficult, right? Is it easy to remove the base of frame?

2:13.0

It's incredibly difficult. Is it easy to remove a governor? No, it's incredibly difficult. There are barriers to these kinds of emotional decisions that provide the kind of stability that our union that public needs.

2:27.0

At the animation that the motion to vacate is something that we have to address. We actually want to be big boys and big girls that are going to keep the momentum going on things like cutting spending and securing the board.

2:38.0

Do you hear a lot that the motion of vacate was something that was removed under Speaker Pelosi? Do you still support having the motion of vacate? You just want stricter metrics for how it's used and who can use it and how often it can be used?

2:52.0

I don't know that I would want to get rid of it. You can't imagine a scenario where Speaker is just terrible just that needs to be removed has lost the confidence of his party and really shouldn't be leading them.

3:07.0

I mean, a leader without followers is just a guy out for a walk and I don't think you want a body that is unable to function that way. So I'm okay with the motion to vacate concept.

3:18.0

But I think you want to have a high enough barrier so that eight get flies eight chaos agents and the willful Democratic party doesn't put us into absolute chaos for two or three weeks.

3:31.0

I mean, we've been making progress. We've got two trillion dollars on spending or the course of next four to five years. We have passed in the law things that are unlocking American energy and are improving welfare.

3:42.0

We were making that kind of progress on the border. I mean, you have Joe Biden announced and he wants to build dozens of miles of border wall now or winning this issue.

3:51.0

Unfortunately for the next two weeks, Republicans are in the house are going to be playing silly DC parlor games about leadership races rather than actually get stopped out.

4:01.0

And when you talk about reforming it and keeping it around, what do you think would be that happy medium in your eyes?

4:08.0

I'm not married to a particular number. Everybody in Washington DC loves to have red lines. They don't support this. They won't support that.

4:16.0

Clearly, if you lost the confidence of a majority of your caucus or conference, it seems like you should probably be showing the door.
