from criminals invoking a law permitting the federal government to run the federal

capital. I came into D.C. and experienced what everybody feels when they visit our nation's capital,

that it's no longer a safe place to be. This is the Fox News Rondown evening edition.

Despite the FBI saying crime has decreased recently, urban crime is still pervasive

across most major and even mid-sized American cities, from assaults to riots to

arsons to murders, all with a lack of enforcement and a lack of mental health care for what has been described as a new

epidemic of mental illness and drug abuse leading to homelessness and more crime.

Washington, D.C. has not escaped this phenomenon. President Trump has made no secret of his desire

to take away control from the elected D.C. local government, and now he'll do that

under a federal law allowing the executive branch to manage the affairs of the nation's capital

city, especially its metropolitan police department. Our capital city has been overtaken by violent

gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged out maniacs and

homeless people, and we're not going to let it happen anymore. We're not going to take it.

The president speaking at the White House press briefing room, to which he remarked was more crowded

than usual with reporters. He'll be dispatching not just the local cops, but also the D.C. National Guard,

the FBI, the National Park Police, all to clean up the streets. And then he'll have his new
