What came first? Music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns or watching violent videos. Some sort of

culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally

thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery, and loss. Did I listen to pop music because

I was miserable? Or were they miserable because I listened to pop music?

Some of you will remember that as the opening from the movie High Fidelity.

I had read the book before I read the movie and before I watched the movie. And what you expect me to

say now is the book is much better. The movie is not very good. Well, first of all, the book is

always better than the movie. And the reason is when you watch a 10-second scene of somebody walking

into say a bookstore. It's 10 seconds of visuals. And they all kind of blur together for you.

When you read a book, that's six pages. There will be eight adjectives about the texture of the

books and how they're arranged or strewn about. The look on his face, the lines in his face,

what they are like. The color of his hair might take a paragraph. The clothes that he's wearing and

why he's wearing them and what he thinks they project and what the audience sees them as.

That's why the book is always so much better because you go deeper into detail. The minutia.

You get granular in the details. No, it's easier to watch a movie. So I'm not going to tell you

that the movie is worse or not as good as the book because that would be cliche and untrue.

It's a wonderful movie. And it's one of my favorite movies by an actor named John Q's Act.

John Q's Act started his career in the 80s. He was in 16 candles. Big movie at the time.

He was in the iconic teen romance, say anything. And this really, this really catapulted him into

stardom. Here is say anything.

Not about this is quite a bit, sir. And I would have to say considering what's waiting out there for me.
